Black women’s cape, elegant afternoon street wear. Made of black satin silk and striped velvet, tailored in several pieces. Longer in the front, shorter in the back, probably made for a bustle dress. It has a velvet collar and is decorated with a leaf patterned braid embroidery and a frill of lace (like a jabot) on the front. The sleeves are of an interesting shape, curved at the front elbows, with a Japanese cut and a wide lace frill at the shoulders. The back is also decorated with lace embroidery and small hanging beaded balls.
