It is supplementary part of the Official’s robe, a kind of power dressing. It takes the deep black satin as the base, applied with the extremely exquisite golden embroidery technique. The core pattern of the patch, the egrets, flapping their wings as if about to take off, are elegant and lifelike. Beads are are wound in circles to form the shape of the sun. In the Qing Dynasty, civilian officials’ rank symbols were birds and military officials’ were beasts. This patch belongs to the sixth-rank civilian officials.
