Funeral crown

The technique known as la fleur perlée française started in the workshops of Murano, Italy. This technique would arrive in France in the 19th and 20th centuries while making compositions used in baptisms, marriages, and especially funerals. This artisanal technique, practiced both in workshops and at one’s home, was exercised by women. No longer used in funerary arts, the technique is since used for ornamental uses, especially in fashion.
This crown was collected in 2003 during a research program on the master glassworkers in Europe and the Mediterranean.
